Paradox in itself

It was late evening when i was taking a stroll in the university campus with my Orissa friend. I opened up the long time paradox that was running in my mind for discussion. The excitement to contradict fascinates me, so i asked him, "Did you happen to read about the latest news on 100 years of Indian cinema?" He nodded his head in agreement. My next question was, "Did you see the list of 100 best Indian cinemas of all time". And this time he said "No". And the narration of our evening walk goes like this.

I was surprised and agonized, when i found that, only 7 Tamil movies made to the list of top 100 Indian cinemas of all time. It was the same for Bengali, Kannada, Telugu, Marathi and Malayalam. When there was only one North-East Indian movie in the list, the selection looked more like a formality. The criteria on which they evaluated the best movies are certainly unknown. If one goes by the fact that around 40 Hindi movies were selected because of the sole reason that it is the language of majority in the country, then the selection looks more biased and prejudiced. And this is defaming the literary and art which was patronized by the Bengalis and Tamil movies which are known for their novelty. It’s no doubt that the hegemony and dominance of Bollywood is erasing the contributions of other states and languages. Especially the Dravidians find it difficult to accept this overlooking and in no way they are wrong.  Aren’t they?

I recently read an article on a blog, "Why Chennai can't and won't speak Hindi?' The author articulates two contradictory reasons for Tamil people`s resistance to learn Hindi. Firstly the love of Tamil and secondly the fear of extinction of their language. In early 1960`s, when an amendment to make Hindi as the national language of India was passed, there was huge uproar in many of the southern states. Arignar Annadurai, the then chief minister of Tamilnadu, asked the committee, if Hindi is made as the national language on the basis of majority of people speaking, why was Tiger and Peacock made as the national animal and bird respectively and why not rats and crows, as they are larger in number. I admired his sense of Correlation and the logic behind it.

Well, I reckon the need to learn other languages; esp. Hindi has become vital in India and none can deny that fact. Government jobs (civil services) and also multinational companies appreciate and value candidates better, if they are familiar with the local languages. And in this globalized world, it has become common to work in a multi-cultural environment. Being in love with the local language is appreciable, but resisting to learning the other languages sparks the ignorance and prejudice of the Tamilians. Because schools in Kerala have made Hindi as a mandatory subject and it is almost a similar case in Andhra Pradesh. Politicians try to spur this issue and create an emotional ego among the people. Sanskrit the mother of Hindi has become almost non-existent today, while Greek and Latin have also met the same end. That might be the reason for fear among Tamilians which might end up in losing their identity. But when a population of almost 7.5 crores speaks Tamil, i think that fear is absurd.

Since Tamil is one of the oldest languages in the world history and civilization, the state should hold more world class conferences, seminars to promote the language on a larger scale and strive to get the accreditation and credit this language deserves, rather than holding a myopic view and let the fear sink in. How many parents and schools today in Tamilnadu take pride in teaching Tamil language is a question that would go unanswered by many. I also wonder, how many of today`s youth in Tamil Nadu could read and understand the world class Tamil literature's like Tirukkural, Tholkapiyam and Pazhamozhi. People are definitely not going to lose their identity because of others presence or threat from other cultures, but when they don’t know who they are, what they are, that is when their identity gets lost. False pride is the truest character of ignorance.

It is certainly, not just the North Indians stereotyping the south people. Many a times, i have read the people in Chennai, even if they know English, they never reply back to North Indians in English. Indians call their country as the land of unity in diversity, but i have experienced more of diversity and hypocrisy rather than unity. The only way to end this hostility is to live in each other’s place, feel the experience and start respecting each other’s cultures and traditions. And this is going to happen more in the coming days, as there is a major population shift from one city to another to explore the opportunities and enhance the broad minded approach to accept and live as a world citizen.

It was a great walk and talk, though I despised myself mentioning him as a friend from Orissa and not from India. The hypocrisy runs within us deep and ugly, it might be easy to say, all Indians are my brothers and sisters, but it’s difficult to live that way. When we do that and respect people from other states then we can become not like US or China, but like India. An India which Mahatma Gandhi and Abdul Kalam dreamed of. Jaihind!

To Err is Human

To err is human~

What lies beneath those lips
are the masks for their lies and falsity
A hard hearted soul, impulsive
to the deceptions of the world
they fight for nothing and hide
their injustice under the hood of
honur and valor, at the expense
of the freedom of another being~

Men lust after their addiction
as bees hover around the honey comb
they dodge the other-half like predators
perhaps the darkness withhold them,
from the purity that light brings forth~

Betrayal, proudness, covetousness hovers
around this once beautiful world~
what you see, is fake
what you hear, is faux
what you wear, is deceptive
what you pursue, is ugly!

Reasoning eludes doubtfulness, but
the motive deludes in vain
change never happens, coz
it hasn't started at home yet

Illiteracy blinds their eyes
they believe in which, doesn't exist
which is the reason for an
existence of a  dystopian society
alas the intellect lies buried!

coz to err is human!!!!!

Student Life

Crawled, Pushed, Walked
those little steps to the stylish walks
as gently as it sounds, were
more than a moment of liveliness
not just moments, minutes or days,
but years~ 19 long years!

The far-cry is sounding to end,
as the fairy-tale seeks its last bend
where my dreams were weaved and mend
in to reality, now at the last
stretch, i contemplate over the
life of student, wait am still a one~

As i enter my classroom tomorrow,
the last wishes of a student
hovers in and out of my mind,
plenty of wishes and anxieties!

Each lucky stones i pelted
inside my pockets turned
out to be golden ones- Friends
certainly carve out the beautiful
pages of this phase` if you lucky
to find one, then you can live one,
though i owe him one alwayzzz~

For feelings and farewell can hold up
as i am ready to hug and relish
the last few days as a student,
although a demanding professional
life sneaks at the other end, it
can wait, for few more days and nits
for am a student still, a naughty student though!

Special One

Not much shared,
not much said,
not much known,
still our hearts beats in the same tone
those special moments,
every minute alone with yu
when yu uttered those words
i saw ur eyes, more than ur lips,
which conveyed a lot to me, which
is far beyond explanation.

I climb up the terrace, the
vicious wind, tears up my skin
i stand alone, staring at the stars
that glitter in the darkness,
suddenly something wraps up the glowing stars,
and i envision ur face,
which was gleaming at par!

At that minute, my life
says something true,
i wish to hear it, but it just whispers
i couldn't hear more, i couldn't ~

The sky opens, the rain dwindles in to my eyes,
blending with my tears,
it was never a moment of sorrow,
but the happy tears, which i embraced
i tried to catch yu, but i could never hold yu
i saw yu touching my cheeks and lips
and parting the very minute
i stood there alone, just alone
a solitary moment, which said,
yu are gonna leave me, leave me alone
soon, soon.....! Luv yu so much buddie!

Bad is no Good

Sun sprouts another day beautifully
at my backyard, the golden color
gushing brightly in my naked eyes~
I conceal my face, under the
pillow, refusing to see the rays, not
knowing the day is new and fresh~

My itineraries look dull and rot,
i walk towards the water,
it looks cold and frozen, like me.
something forces me, towards a path,
i drive past the road, which isnt clear,
doubting to pass thro, unable to find
the signboard and signal to my destiny,
i feel stranded in the middle of the road!

But that might be the best choice, where
i take the road, which i wish
no one would be, where i can
look isolated from the world,
probably on a mountain cliff, with
eagles flying across, the height
challenging me to take a jump down.
Wouldnt it be a perfect end?

Born naked, lived under the arms of
most affectionate humans, swept
away from home at young,
lived life on own for most part
to this minute, suddenly i cant hold
anything together, itz paining,
eyes water, heart gets heavy,
world seems so weird.

Love and friendship for which
i held, utmost respect in my heart
seemed to fade away~ Again
the sun starts melting, the
dark clouds taunts me, with a wicked smile
oh, its getting cold, its getting cold
for i have lost one more, one more day!

Musical World

"Music my world "

No one near, except for the lightness
portrayed inside me, there was darkness,
on a hilly patch, i could
hardly see any stars gazing,
but my heart was still musing, to the
tunes of my life!

Deep down, my eyes were silent, so was
my mood, which swung from one end to another,
said a lot, but whatever it said, the
background which i listened to, made
the universe, remain quiet and still for me.

At the outset of hearing the heat beats
of my mum when i bedded on her chest,
the first instrument was heard!
the little walks i took on the field side, where
the voice of cuckoo murmuring, the songs of
villagers while reaping paddy, pounding of
water from the pump set, and noise of
kids swimming were other mesmerizing beats,
which was heeded too!

Music the metaphorical translation
of moments, which one bonds to,
the euphony, which made me forget
the world around, and took me to
other world, which everyone wishes to see
is my only friend ~ all days and nits!

On a November Evening

Lost between the world of reality and fantasy
somewhere something is deep and hollow,
covering my face, under the pillow
closed my eyes, to think narrow
wish to paint my walls yellow,
coz you loved it, kiddo.....

The heart is heavy to sigh,
saying you were the reason for high,
i dont lie, coz am
willing to die~  for you were
always my pie#

Missing you, gave me hell
so started walking a mile,
i fell to walk the stretch ,
for you were beyond my reach

Wish a day off, coz
i looked totally bumped off,
you were the reason
for being in prison,
will you come to free me?

"bad is good, being
good is no good"
